Acute Injury Screens
What is triage?
Choice Rehabilitation offers a service referred to as “triage”. Our trained therapists provide employers more information about the injury and how it can best be managed. When an associate reports an injury on the job, the employer contacts us. We make every effort to schedule the associate on that day for a screening where we discuss the mechanism of the injury and symptoms reported. We then communicate with the employer our recommendations in how to best treat the injury. Sometimes this may include Direct Access therapy in which a physician’s order is not necessary for the first 42 calendar days.
If we feel that an injury can be managed in a short period of time with education, exercises, deep tissue massage and/or simple modalities such as ice or heat we may recommend Muscle Fatigue Massage (MFM). With this form of intervention, a therapist works one on one with the client to help them understand how the healing process works as well as to instruct them in exercises and body mechanics as well as the use of home treatments to facilitate recovery. We encourage them to continue to do regular work tasks without restrictions although we may work with the employer to temporarily accommodate the employee in work tasks. If at any time we feel that an individual is not recovering as expected or needs further assessment by a physician, we contact the employer to facilitate this happening.
